We’re delighted to announce our next FREE 9-week Tailoring Course for women and young people in the Scottish Borders.
On completion, students will be awarded an Advanced Tailoring & Heritage Crafts Certificate from us. The course has been developed with some guidance from the UK Fashion and Textiles Industry Association,.

About the Course
This hands-on course is designed to help you build advanced tailoring and textile skills, with a special focus on tartan and bespoke textile design.
You’ll learn professional-level techniques in garment construction, finishing, and product development – and get an insight into enterprise and career pathways within the Scottish textiles sector.

Week 2: Pattern Cutting, Colour/Tartan Matching & Understanding the Sett
Week 3: Exploring Textile & Product Design
Week 4: Introduction to Highland Dress
Week 5: Garment & Accessory Construction
Week 6: Specialist Finishes & Detailing

Week 8: Half-day visit to a weaving mill
Week 9: Product Completion & Enterprise Pathways
Who Can Apply?
This course is for women and young people with some basic sewing machine skills, although we’ll cover hand sewing and other core techniques from the ground up.
Before the course begins, we’ll host a taster session in December to give everyone a feel for the course and a chance to try out some of the skills you’ll be learning.
