The lieutenancy area of Ayrshire and Arran was created in 1996 during local government reform. The Ayrshire and Arran Tourist Board website shows the 5 distinct areas of the Coig: Shire, Shiel, Arran, Bute and Cumbrae and this tartan was designed to celebrate those communities.
The colours of the Ayrshire Tourist Board Tartan are emblematic of the colours interwoven through the beautiful landscape; “A land of natural contrasts. From spectacular coastlines with miles of sandy beaches to beautiful rolling countryside, bustling towns to sleepy villages, this stunning area provides endless opportunities for an action-packed adventure or just to escape and unwind!”
This Tartan is not to be confused with the ‘Ayrshire’ Tartan, both designed by David McGill on request, this was specially designed for the Tourist Board to promote this outstanding area of beauty to the world.
Ayrshire Tourist Board is a registered Tartan
