Commissioned in 2004 by Mme Olga Poivre d'Arvor, the Director of the French Institute in Scotland. Dating back to 1295, the ‘Auld Alliance’ was a unique relationship between France and Scotland that granted dual citizenship in both countries right through to the early 20th Century. It has created a special bond between the people of Scotland and France which survives to this very day. Born out of political, cultural and military allegiances over the centuries, the relationship has grown and blossomed through trade, art, culture and philosophy and shared influence. The colours of this poignant tartan incorporate the French Tricolour with the Scottish Saltire and celebrate the Franco-Scottish Alliance. The Auld Alliance Tartan offers the peoples of France and Scotland the opportunity to express pride in shared history and heritage.
All of our tartan is double width (140-152cm) medium weight 11-13oz, if you would like to enquire about commissioning lightweight or heavyweight please Contact Us.
