The Story behind our Nihon Japanese Tartan
Originally commissioned by Mr Eric Melvin of Edinburgh and now one of a set of four tartans in 'The Four Seasons' collection, to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the first treaty between Japan and the UK (1858) and, the arrival of Thomas Blake Glover, the Scottish Samurai, in Nagasaki (1859). Nihon or 'the sun's origin' references Japan's geographical position east of China, where the sun appears to rise first and the sun deity 'Amaterasu' in Shinto mythology.
Nihon is a registered Tartan STA ref: none STWR ref: 3187
