Originally commissioned by Mr Eric Melvin of Edinburgh and the first in the 'Tartans for Africa' series, it was created to strengthen the bonds of friendship between Scotland and Kenya and to generate income for humanitarian projects in Kenya. Approved by the Kenyan High Commissioner to the UK. The colours of the flags of the two nations are incorporated in the design.
