The Design of our Egypt Tartan

The tartan incorporates the colours of the Egyptian Tricolour, with golden yellow symbolising Egypt’s national emblem, the eagle of Saladin, which also reflects Scottish symbolism for beauty, power, and wild places. All of our tartan is woven locally with 100% British wool, and can be ordered by the metre or half metre. We can also create a bespoke Egypt tartan product for you. Choose from a wide range which includes kilts, shawlsties, cosmetic bags and more. They will be handmade in our workshop in the South of Scotland.

The Story behind our Egypt Tartan

Celebrating the friendship between Scotland and Egypt, the Egypt Tartan is a distinctive design in the Tartans for Africa Collection, created to strengthen the cultural ties between Scotland and Egypt while also generating income for community enterprises and humanitarian projects. Designed over an 18-month period between 2006 and 2007, the creation of this tartan involved Egyptian-Scots who helped choose the colour balance and the composition of the design. This tartan serves as a meaningful tribute to the shared cultural heritage between Scotland and Egypt, while supporting important community initiatives.
