This tartan was the last tartan designed by David McGill in 2019. It was launched on International Women’s Day 2020 in honour of Elsie Inglis (1864-1917) a physician, surgeon, teacher, humanitarian and suffragist. She was born in India and came to Scotland aged 13 where she studied medicine in Edinburgh and Glasgow. She opened a General Practice in Edinburgh, a hospital for women and children and campaigned ardently for women’s votes. During WW1, she set-up and staffed The ScottishWomen’s Hospitals and went on to save thousands of lives. Elsie was the first woman and non-Serbian to receive the Order of the White Eagle, the highest Serbian Honour for heroism. This tartan is a dedication to her memory and to the peoples of Serbia who have revered her for over a hundred years. The tartan design incorporates the colours of the Serbian Flag and the Scottish Saltire.
