After being launched in Edinburgh in 2015, the 'Spirit of Romania' tartan arrived in Bucharest on the 1st December, the National Day of Romania. The tartan was also launched at the annual Caledonian Society Burns Supper, organised on 24th January, at the Radisson Hotel in Romania’s capital. The first ever ‘Romanian tartan’ kilt supplied by International Tartans was auctioned for €700 at the Caledonian Society Burns Supper.
Born after a conversation between Jim Hendry, a Scottish businessman living in Romania, and Larisa Ilin, a Romanian-Scot living in Edinburg. David McGill designed the tartan incorporating a combination of the Romanian flag’s red, yellow and blue, combined with the blue and white of the Scottish Saltire. It’s a vibrant and beautiful tartan.
